Nick Rogers and Jimmy Mcdermott had big nights with 4 points (2 goals, 2 assists) and 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists) respectively as the Wisconsin Whalers crushed the Wausau RiverWolves 5-2 in a home game at Marathon Park in Wisconsin. Besides, the Wisconsin Whalers' offense had a big night, peppering Wausau with 65 shots throughout the game. The Wisconsin Whalers took the lead before the halfway point in the second on a goal from Nick Rogers.
John Vandervalk contributed with 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist) and Zane Marshman did his part, adding 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist). Ryan Hempel chipped in with 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist).
In the first, Marshman opened the scoring for the Whalers with a goal at 6:06 with helpers from teammates Vandervalk and Mcdermott. Mcdermott deposited a goal at 9:02 with helpers from his linemates, Marshman and Rogers.
In the second, Routheut finally put Wausau on the board with a goal at 3:59 with an assist from fellow RiverWolves forward Hempel. Hempel scored a goal at 12:52 with a helper from Irwin. Rogers quickly followed with what turned out to be the game winning goal at 14:50 with assists from Hanson and Huson. Rogers quickly followed with a goal at 15:57 with helpers from his linemates, Mcdermott and Gille.
During the third, Vandervalk put in a goal at 0:52 with assists from Rogers and Mcdermott.
The Whalers’ victory was in no doubt helped out by Earls’ big night as he stopped 30 of the 32 shots he faced. Earls’ counterpart, Baribeau, also had a big night, managing to stop 60 of 65, but ultimately fell short.
This win brings the Wisconsin Whalers’ record to (14-21-1-1).
