During the first, Rogers opened the scoring for the Whalers with a goal at 4:10 with a helper from defenseman Hefty. Magnavite quickly followed with a goal at 4:36 with helpers from teammates Ratzloff and Caplis. Lackey quickly followed with a goal at 5:00 with assists from Poellinger and Marquardt. Ratzloff scored a goal at 11:37 with helpers from his linemates, Magnavite and Seeger.
In the second period, Hanson answered for the Whalers with a goal at 11:32 with assists from Hefty and Rogers. Lackey answered for La Crosse with a goal at 18:17.
During the third, Garman deposited what turned out to be the game winning goal at 7:07 with a helper from fellow Freeze forward Fondadouze. Vandervalk answered for the Whalers with a goal at 11:42. Rogers put in a goal at 14:25 with assists from his linemates, Grobstick and Mcdermott.
